On this episode of the Food About Town podcast I sat down in the studio with Chris Clemens from ExploringUpstate.com to talk about the controversy that popped up this weekend about the usage of the “Flour City” moniker. What I am referring to is the cease and desist notice from Flour City Pasta that Flour City Bread posted in their store and described on their IndieGoGo page on Saturday.
Chris wrote a fantastic post on the history of the usage of the term Flour City on his blog and you should definitely read through to get even more history. After Chris and I posted an open option for people to Skype or Facetime in to talk, Keith Myers from Flour City Bread called in and we talked through the issue with him for about half an hour. This was a big surprise to us since we didn’t reach out to him ahead of time, but he was able to provide his viewpoint on the situation in a very reasonable fashion.
Flour City Pasta did post a statement on their Facebook page late Sunday evening so go read that to get a more complete view on the topic. I do think it is important to keep the conversations civil regardless of which side (if any) you find yourself supporting. Although I do feel strongly on the issue, what I hope for is quick resolution to put this in the past without too much more drama. This whole situation is unfortunate and detrimental to the community as a whole. We should be working together to build each other up instead of in-fighting and wasting resources.
